The Springford Family Murders

The murder of parents by their children is called parricide. It accounts for approximately 2% of the homicides in the US, annually. Most of these tend to be committed by males, and typically, it’s a single victim and single offender. However, occasionally, both parents, to include a biological parent and stepparent, are murdered. In the case of multiple offenders, it’s usually adolescent females who have enlisted their boyfriend or friend’s assistance. Adult offenders of both sexes are usually mentally ill, whereas adolescents of both sexes are seeking to gain freedom. Female adolescents have usually been told they cannot date someone. Regardless of the reasons, parricide is shocking and leaves surviving relatives struggling to understand. The victims in today’s episode were wealthy, philanthropic, and the loving parents of two children.

GetVokl: A Discussion w Sarah Turney

I first met Sarah Turney at the True Crime Podcast Festival in 2019. She had just published the first episode of her new podcast called Voices for Justice [Link:https://www.voicesforjusticepodcast.com/] After meeting her, I realized that I wanted to know more, so I started listening to her show and man, did I have questions for her. So, I asked her to come on to my GetVokl stream so that we could talk about her advocacy work and, answer all of my questions. Sarah Turney is a beautiful and thoughtful person, who I hope is able to find justice for her sister.

Voices for Justice is written, produced, and, hosted by Sarah Turney. It features the story of missing teen and Sarah’s sister, Alissa Turney. Alissa went missing from Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 when she was 17 years old. The only person of interest in Alissa’s case is her and Sarah’s father. This podcast gives a never before seen and extremely intimate look into the strange circumstances leading up to Alissa’s disappearance. Sarah will be reviewing 30+ years of video and audio records, 3000 pages of case record from the nearly 20 year police investigation, and current efforts being made to get justice for Alissa.

Ghouls of New York

For most people, when they bury their loved ones, they expect to grieve and for the deceased to rest in peace. Unfortunately, throughout history, and even today, the deceased and their families fall victim to graverobbers, or bodysnatchers. Most people are not aware this gruesome practice still occurs, but in the mid-2000s, thousands of families discovered their loved ones’ corpses had been desecrated.

Introducing Once Upon A Time In…the Valley.

In the roaring 1980s X world, Traci Lords reigned supreme. No one questioned her right to sovereignty. Only, it turned out, the biggest star in Adult, wasn’t one. As America would discover in July 1986, when the FBI busted down her door. Traci Lords was really Nora Kuzma, who entered the industry as a 15-year-old high school sophomore. Traci, the victim, was saved. And the industry, the villain, was very nearly destroyed. But what if the victim here was also the villain; the villain, also the victim? Welcome to Once Upon a Time… in the Valley is the world’s first real-life psychological thriller and porno-noir mystery.

Savage Appetites: A conversation with author Rachel Monroe

This is a departure from what you’re used to hearing. Since I have been shuffling my recording equipment around, I didn’t have enough time to get my regular set up ready before needing to record this episode. Instead, I wanted to give you an idea of what our GetVokl streams are like. I would love for you to join me every Thursday at 7pm CST to talk with new authors and other true crime topics. We at TCFC thank you for your support and will have a regular episode next week!

Harold Nicholson

It’s like a scene from a 90’s movie – a mild-mannered CIA agent is arrested for espionage as he waited for his flight to Switzerland. The agent makes the case that he only did it to support his family but, from his federal prison cell, continues the scheme. He drags friends and relatives into his crimes until he is caught again and the world is left wondering if this is really that last we will hear from him. But this isn’t the plot from a movie; it’s real life. On November 16th, 1996, the CIA closed in on one of their own, someone they had been investigating for a year. Harold James Nicholson was taken into custody and became the highest-ranking CIA officer to be charged with espionage. After his arrest and conviction, he continued to communicate with foreign intelligence leading one of his family members to join him in court.

Join me for a special getvokl where I speak with author Rachel Monroe  who wrote the book Savage Appetites: True Stories of Women, Crime, and Obsession. If you join us on Getvokl on July 7th, 2020 at 7pm CST you can enter for a chance to win a copy of her book!
